Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall’s engagement announcement on Jan. 11 came as a shock to those who hadn’t followed their whirlwind four-month romance.

Those who had perhaps seen photos of their first major public outing together — at the 2015 Rugby World Cup final match between New Zealand and Australia and London’s Twickenham Stadium on Oct. 31, 2015 — maybe were less surprised. In a VIP box at the stadium, the 84-year-old billionaire looked positively smitten with 59-year-old Hall.

It’s rare to see someone of Murdoch’s stature — arguably one of the world’s most powerful media moguls in the business with his role as News Corp. executive chairman — so out in the open with his romantic emotions, planting kisses on Hall’s cheek (seen above) and whispering in her ear in the middle of the match.

Hall, meanwhile, has been much more open in the past about her personal life as well as her career. Her longtime relationship with Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger has been well-documented (the couple also have four children together), but here are some facts about the Texas-born Hall that may surprise you.

  • She Prefers to Be Called an Actress

    It's most common to see "model" or "Mick Jagger's ex" attached to Hall's name in stories about the 6'0'' tall stunner. 

    But during an interview with Australian radio station 3AW 693 in Melbourne, Hall admitted that she likes to be called actress over every other moniker or affiliation. "I studied drama in high school and when I was 18, I studied at the Actors Studio in New York," she told the deejays. "Then I moved to London when I got engaged to Bryan Ferry and I studied at the National Theatre there."

    To audiences, she's most recognizable as Alicia Hunt, the mistress of crime boss Carl Grissom and the secret love of Jack Nicholson's The Joker in 1999's Batman for director Tim Burton. She reportedly snagged the role after being spotted by a key Batman crew member while she was filming a chocolate commercial at Pinewood Studios. 

    Most recently, she has appeared on stage in the iconic role of Mrs. Robinson in various productions of The Graduate. She next appears on the big screen opposite Patsy and Edina in the Ab Fab movie and the indie Hellbent. 

    Television audiences though may remember her for such reality series as the ballroom competition Strictly Come Dancing and Kept. The latter would likely be most interesting to friends and confidantes of Mr. Murdoch as the VH1 reality show from 2005 followed Hall as she searched for a "kept man." (Hint: Young and money hungry.)

  • "I Am Not Completely Nude, I Have on High Heels"

    Speaking of The Graduate, Hall will again tackle the role after having booked another touring production that will keep her busy Down Under through the end of 2016.

    According to BroadwayWorld, Hall will take the stage in Australia at the Adelaide Festival Theatre starting Nov. 5, and continuing on to QPAC's Lyric Theatre on Nov. 25 and finishing at the Sydney Lyric Theatre on Dec. 2. 

    Of Mrs. Robinson (a role that requires full nudity), Hall once said: "I understand her. She's a wonderful character and I think all women feel a lot of things Mrs. Robinson feels."

    That includes falling for a younger man, apparently, something Hall once said she enjoyed. "It's quite nice dating younger men. They can keep up." 

    Don't tell that to her fiancé.

  • Anjelica Huston Snuck Jerry Hall into "The Addams Family"

    Hall served as the inspiration for Anjelica Huston's classic movie mom character in Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 comedy The Addams Family.

    Huston revealed that tidbit in her memoir, Watch Me, writing, "I decided on my friend Jerry Hall, the beautiful Texan model, feeling that her kind, gentle disposition and utter devotion to her children might lend some warmth to Morticia’s chilly, unflappable nature."

  • She's Got Her Own Money

    Jerry Hall knows a thing or two about art and investments.

    In January 2010, Sotheby's handled a two-day art auction in London (where Hall has lived most of her adult life) featuring contemporary works owned by Hall. In total there were 14 pieces put up on the block and, according to the Associated Press, four pieces didn't sell.

    But the rest did to the tune of nearly $4 million in total sales. At the time, Sotheby's noted that the highest price was for a painting titled "Head of Helen Gillespie" by artist Frank Auerbach. That work snagged $1.76 million. 

    Of the works, one painting by Lucien Freud, featured Hall in the nude while she was eight months pregnant with her fourth child, Luke Jagger. That painting went for $961,579.

  • She Knows What She Likes in a Man: Stamina

    During that same interview with the Melbourne radio station, the local deejays asked Hall what she looks for in a good man.

    Her answer came quickly.

    "Stamina is always good," laughed Hall, who also revealed that she comes from a large family and is one of five children — all girls and all good looking. 

    Apparently though, stamina has been hard to find. "I'm still looking for a good man," she explained during the 2013 sit-down chat. But in addition to being able to keep up, Hall said that she actually notices something else about a man first. "Their eyes," she cooed.
